Dr. Marina, MD, specializes in research mentorship and medical school admission consulting. She is an Adult Psychiatry Resident at Case Western Reserve University and a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Gosain Pediatric Plastic and Craniofacial Surgery Laboratory Northwestern University. She holds a BS in Neuroscience degree from Northwestern University, and MD degree from University of Illinois at Chicago.


During her 9 years of research experience, she worked both on basic science and clinical research, with topics ranging from circadian rhythms and gene activation in Alzheimer’s animal models to patient-reported outcomes and language-concordant care in the United States healthcare system. Dr. Marina has been awarded monetary scholarships for her research at Northwestern University, and as part of the Global Health program in her medical school. She presented over fifty podium and poster presentations at numerous regional, national, and international conferences, winning awards for best abstracts five times and receiving two merit-based conference attendance scholarships. Dr. Marina has over twenty publications in peer-reviewed prestigious journals, such as Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Journal of Craniofacial Surgery.


Her professional journey included committees dedicated to medical school curriculum development, undergraduate advising, and global medicine curriculum development, where she gained insight into the higher education specifics and advocated for equitable access for underrepresented groups. As an example, her team developed an innovative curriculum on Language in Healthcare, which highlighted the importance of cultural competency and appropriate use of medical interpreters.


Upon graduating from medical school, Dr. Marina worked as a General Surgery resident at University of Kentucky, where she led coaching sessions for students interested in surgery. She transitioned into Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University, where she currently serves as a representative at the Resident Leader Council and co-chairs a Clinical Excellence & Leadership committee. Her current research focuses on forensic psychiatry and gender equity.


Dr. Marina is multilingual, with native proficiency in Russian, Belarusian, and English, professional working proficiency in Spanish, and basic proficiency in Polish, Ukrainian and Hindi. She brings international experience through her background as a first-generation immigrant from Belarus.


Outside of work, she enjoys crocheting, boxing, and learning new languages.
