Career Advising for Graduate Students and Advanced Degree Holders

Exploration, clarity, and direction for academic careers, non‑academic careers, and career pivots across disciplines.

Graduate and professional degree programs often widen your perspective, deepen your knowledge, strengthen technical skills, and build confidence, self‑understanding, and the capacity for resilience, problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and lifelong learning. These are essential skills for a wide range of careers, yet many programs still prepare students for a narrow set of specialist roles and offer little structured guidance on the broader possibilities your advanced degree can open. You may have started your program with one path in mind, only to discover new interests, new constraints, or a desire for a career that better aligns with your strengths, values, and long‑term wellbeing.

Whether you are still in your program or exploring a post‑degree pivot, Another Degree connects you with mentors who have built careers in science, tech, entrepreneurship, writing and creative fields, government, health care, law, nonprofits, diverse roles in higher education, and a wide range of industries.

We use the term "mentor" instead of career counselor or career advisor because they've been where you are and can provide holistic guidance and insights with the structured empowerment of a career coach. You can do a one-off meeting, recurring sessions, or even build a team for multiple insights and to refine your strategy.

They'll help you identify your options, articulate your strengths, and build a plan that aligns with your goals, values, and long‑term wellbeing.

How it works and what to expect

  • Career mentoring sessions are held online and tailored to your stage in graduate school or your post‑degree career planning.

  • You can view our mentor list and request a direct booking for an initial session at a time that works with your schedule - or complete the form on this page to request a mentor match.

  • All sessions are confidential and independent from your institution (you will never be matched with someone from your institution), giving you space to explore your options openly.

  • You may receive a notification if your mentor requests more information before your first meeting. This allows them to review your materials or learn more about your interests, experience, and goals.

  • Unlike other coaching services that rely on upselling and commissions, there is no obligation to commit to multiple sessions. We recommend starting with one session. Afterward, you will be offered discounted package options if you would like continued support. You can also use session packages across multiple mentors to build a team with complementary strengths.

  • Users who purchase multiple session packages will receive access to a private online learning community moderated by Another Degree mentors. This space offers peer support, Q&A threads, accountability, and guidance between your one-on-one meetings
