Renee is a dedicated information professional and lifelong learner with 10+ years of experience in higher education. Her love of learning led her to obtain a B.A. in English with a minor in Digital Humanities from UCLA. She then continued her studies at UCLA with a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS).

Renee worked as a Science Librarian at UCLA for several years, where she specialized in outreach, research, teaching, and information literacy. As a librarian Renee sought to equip learners on their research and educational journey, working with students, staff, and faculty to develop curricula and research plans that promoted the use of library resources. While in her previous position at UCLA as an Instructional Design and Technology Consultant, Renee focused on learner-centered design and educational technology. She co-founded WI+RE, a learner-led design team at UCLA Library that creates interactive research and writing tutorials. WI+RE’s values-driven approach to design led to meaningful partnerships with the Undergraduate Writing Center, Undergraduate Research Centers, Center for Education Innovation and Learning in the Sciences, and several other campus groups.

Renee has mentored students (both undergraduate and graduate) and peers throughout her career, and is passionate about creating collaborative spaces where everyone feels seen, supported, and empowered. Whether editing admissions essays, chatting through class options, or offering general guidance, she believes the relationship between mentor and mentee is a partnership and strives to offer holistic support throughout the mentoring relationship. Renee has personally experienced the transformative effect of mentorship firsthand, relying on the guidance of both official and unofficial mentors throughout her MLIS program. She is excited to use her interdisciplinary background to continue supporting future generations of researchers and professionals.

Renee’s most recent publications explore strategies for learner-centered management, outreach, and design. Outside of her professional life, she enjoys reading and spending time with her husband and two cats.
